Our Crystallize designs were inspired by the natural beauty of minerals and stones found everywhere and its collectors who go through extreme trouble to gather and collect these treasures. We were invited by a passionate collector here in Potsdam and as featured in the Tagesspiegel he told us of his adventures of finding these pieces. As we were listening to him we realized the hunt for these treasures is a big part of the passion. We researched how minerals come into existence and were intrigued to experiment with growing our own.
IT'S ALL ABOUT GROWING CRYSTALS, YELLOW LIGHT, FORTUNY, COLLECTING PASSIONATELY, SILK, AND FOOL'S GOLD.
The natural beauty of crystals and minerals is the essence of this edition. Crystals are growing naturally in structures, this process can take millennia, centuries or years or only a few hours. Inspired by this we turned our design studio into a laboratory and experimented with growing crystals on fabric. Every day when we came to the studio we were surprised to see the coincidental results of our experiments. The end products bear a reminiscence of Mariano Fortuny's Venice of the 1920s featured here in this FAZ film.
The colourful fabrics symbolize how crystal breaks white light into different tones on the colour spectrum - a strong red representing coral, a shining yellow related to fools gold.
